Time and time again we’ve seen the ever so familiar story about the kid who moves from a small town  in the middle of “nowhere land” to the Big Apple in pursuit of an acting career. Chasing Pavement is a short indie film that revisits this concept but with an interesting twist.

The main character “Elijah”, played by Remy Mars, does indeed become an actor but not in the way he intended. His career in the African American, gay adult entertainment industry and modeling is merely a direct correlation to his private life. He portrays himself as an individual who is confident and self-aware while slowly burying the old him, the real him. He is deemed admirable by his new roommate Takeshi, who is a shy, timid Japanese guy. It is definitely a subject matter that most can identify and even sympathize with, especially if you’re a big dreamer living in New York City.

The plot isn’t exactly apparent until closer to the end, which is a clever tactic to keeping your attention throughout the film. Overall, a subtle but enlightening depiction of the struggles we experience as people in a world where insecurities are unacceptable.Chasing Pavement is a unique story that will keep you guessing and make you expect the unexpected!
