Eden's Garden crew team
We’re just a few months away from the season premier of the most anticipated web series, “Eden’s Garden” and the excitement has us on edge. It’s only been several weeks since we sat down with the mastermind Seven King as he spilled the T on what to expect from the show but of course we had to go back for another sip! This time around we had the privilege of speaking with the Assistant Director, Ebony Felder, who gave us some insight on what it’s been like working both on and off camera with Seven King and the cast of Eden’s Garden and how she managed to make his dream a reality.

Soule: Has directing always been what you’ve aspired to do? When and how did it peak your interest?
Ebony Felder: Directing is something that kind of fell in my lap. I have always been the one to give my open and honest opinion. I have the ability to bring out the best in people and help them go beyond the limits they set for themselves.
Soule: What attracted you to become involved with Seven King on Eden’s Garden?
Ebony Felder: A cast member brought the project to my attention. After reviewing the introductory trailer, I spoke with the cast member and gave him my feedback. I inquired about possibly coming on board and helping out any way I can because I believe in the project. I met Seven and the rest of the cast for the first time at shoot and Seven really liked how I interacted with him and the cast and the rest is history.
Soule: Apart from being the assistant director, you also play a role in the series as well. Tell us a bit about your character.
Ebony Felder: In the series I play a role of a character by the name of “Kenya” in Episode 2. She is the out spoken (i.e crazy) ex-girlfriend of Seven’s character “Eden” before he transitioned. They run into each other in a familiar setting and “Kenya” commences to “rolling up” on him and doing what crazy exes do!
Soule: What were some of the challenges you faced while playing your role in the series. Were any of your own personal stories incorporated into the characters storyline?
Ebony Felder: The challenge playing the role was that it actually portrayed a realistic part of my life. Having gone through something so similar (without the crazy of course), it took me back to an emotional place in my life but made it very easy to execute Sevens’ vision. I am honored to have been asked to play the role and able to do a scene with Seven.
Soule: The LGBT community is sensitive to the proper use of language and references. Are there any challenges working with a predominately transgender cast?

Ebony Felder: No, not at all. I grew up predominately in the LGBTQ community. I am also a person who encourages people to be who they are and live the life they choose. I am a huge supporter of everyone’s choices and decisions. If they like it, I love it.

Soule: What are some of the challenges you face being an assistant director in general?
Ebony Felder: Being an assistant director has its challenges when it comes to being able to remain neutral to all parties. There are a lot of different personalities on set and balancing everyone and being able to come together as one mind and one cast has been a great learning experience. Seven and the cast are an amazing group of guys. They are an absolute pleasure to work with.
Soule: What has been the most enlightening part of your experience working on Eden’s Garden?
Ebony Felder: The most enlightening part is working with Seven and the team. His vision is phenomenal. Also enjoyed meeting a few people along the way. Besides the main cast, the supporting cast and everyone else that has had a hand in this project, just meeting everyone that has come along the way has been an absolute joy!
