June marks the beginning of Black Music Month. “What is Black Music Month?” , you may ask… In June of 1979 President Jimmy Carter along with the support of song writer Kenny Gamble designated June as the time to formally honor the rich history black music. This year in honor of Black Music Month, SOULE will celebrate a black LGBT music artist for each day of the month.
Today we celebrate the talented, Kaoz. Kevin Lanier Moore aka Kaoz is a native Clevelander and an award winning writer, actor, spoken word artist and educator. He independently released his first Project Mayhem Vol. 1.5 (2004) a spoken word/hip-hop mix tape that serves as first in what he calls the Fight Club Trilogy. Kaoz’s lyrical style and energy bring to mind the skills of hip hop pioneers such as Ice Cube and Rakim, mixed with wordplay and humor much like a Madlib or Ghostface Killah. He’s an extremely versatile lyricist with outspoken social and political views. Kaoz consistently pushes his creative boundaries. (Kaoz)
