June marks the beginning of Black Music Month. “What is Black Music Month?” , you may ask… In June of 1979 President Jimmy Carter along with the support of song writer Kenny Gamble designated June as the time to formally honor the rich history  black music. This year in honor of Black Music Month, SOULE will celebrate a black LGBT music artist for each day of the month.

Today we celebrate American gay rapper, Fly Young Red. Fly Young Red is a Gay hip-hop artist born in New Orleans and raised in all parts of the United States. Being deemed a “true lyricist” in an age of manufactured hip-hop, Fly Young Red has made himself define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way music is heard today today. Fly Young Red is known for his popular hit Throw that Boy Pussy.
